Swami Prakashanand Saraswati: The Significance of the Word “Krishn”

Swami Prakashanand Saraswati elucidates that the term “Krishn” is not confined to any religion or cultural context but represents the universal essence of Divine Love. He emphasizes that “Krishn” transcends linguistic and national boundaries, embodying the ultimate form of pure love that satisfies the soul’s deepest yearning for true fulfillment.

As explained by Swami Prakashanand Saraswati…

When some people hear the word “Krishn”, they assume that it relates to a particular religion, but it does not. Religions represent God, but God does not represent a particular religion.

All the religions of the world began within the last two to three thousand years, and God has no beginning or end. So, when was the word “Krishn” actually revealed on this earth planet? Some people say it was when Krishn descended on this earth, five thousand years ago. But, they are wrong, because that was only His recent descension. He has descended uncountable times since eternity. One may say that Krishn descended in India, so He belongs to some category of Indian Gods. But still there is no Indian or American God. God is only one. Even after accepting this fact, one may think that the word “Krishn” comes from an Indian language.

But it is not the outcome of one of the Indian originated languages, because Sanskrit is the celestial and Divine language. Hindi, Urdu, Bengali etc. are Indian languages but not Sanskrit. Sanskrit is the original language that was produced before human civilization when there was nothing in existence, not even the planets, sun or moon, only Brahma, (the creator) existed. Before starting to create this planetary system, the knowledge of God impregnated his mind, and that was in Sanskrit when he prayed to Lord Krishn (the Brahm Sanhita). So, even before creation, Sanskrit existed, so it is called the Divine language. In Brahma’s abode, Brahmalok, he speaks Sanskrit. Brahma is the first to produce the Vedas and they are in Sanskrit language. In this way the word “Krishn” comes from an “eternal language”, Sanskrit, as it is the original, eternal, Divine, celestial and scriptural language.

What is actually meant by the word “Krishn”? First try to understand,“What do you actually desire, or what is your innermost desire?” One may say, “I want happiness, fame, and all the luxuries of the world”. But not a single individual can have all of these things. It means you are desiring for things which are impossible to attain on this earth. You are dissatisfied with your present, personal status, so you strive to improve your status. When you succeed, and are surrounded by a new circle of contemporaries, you are happy for a while, but again you begin to feel a lack, and then you endeavor to progress further ahead. You never feel fully contented with your present attainments and finally youdie. When you are reborn, you again continue your efforts in the same direction, but with no substantial progress in terms of happiness, because you are just running in circles.

Even if you are wealthy, healthy and have gained respect in society, without ‘real love and affection’ in your life, these attainments are still meaningless for you. So, your deepest desire is for ‘love’. You already experience limited love from your family, friends and pets, but that does not totally console you, because you are desiring the absolute, unlimited, pure love, and that is not found on this earth planet. It means, you are desiring for “Divine Love”, and that Divine Love is Krishn, because the all-loving, all-charming, all-beautiful, all-gracious and all-attractive form of God is represented by one single word, “Krishn”.

Thus, “Krishn” could be a word of every language. So, instead of saying, “Oh God, Oh my Sweetheart, I want to see You in your all-loving, all beautiful and all-charming form”, you can simply say, “Oh Krishn, I want to find You”, because Krishn includes all of these Divine attributes.

Your soul has no religion, no culture and no nationality. Your body has these designations. Thus, your soul is desiring only Divine Love which is Krishn, and that is your ultimate goal and the innermost desire.

In Conclusion, Swami Prakashanand Saraswati highlights that “Krishn” is the true essence of Divine Love, which transcends all religious and cultural boundaries. Understanding “Krishn” as the ultimate form of pure love fulfills the soul’s deepest longing beyond worldly constraints.
